Hello My Name Is...

Krista L. Klostermann

Dear Families,

Hello!  Welcome to your child’s second grade classroom.  My name is Ms. Krista Lucy.  I would like to welcome you to an exciting year of second grade at Independence!  Second grade is an important step in your child’s educational experience.  I am very happy to have the opportunity to work with your child at a time when he or she will be accepting more responsibility for their school work and behavior.  It is wonderful to see just how much your child will grow academically and socially throughout this school year.

I would like to share some information about myself with you, both professionally and personally.  I was born and raised in Ballwin, Missouri.  I lived in the same house my whole life!   I have a beautiful 15 year old girl named Karleigh.  She attends Francis Howell and will be in the 9th grade.  When we are not at school, we spend our time at my parents house in Hermann fishing, camping, riding four wheelers, and caring for our dog Sadie.

I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Central Missouri State University.  In May of 1998, I earned my Master of Arts Degree in Elementary Education.  I finished my second master in Elementary Administration in the fall of 2010. I am beginning my 19th year of teaching in the Francis Howell School District.  I taught fourth grade for two years and Kindergarten for 11 years.  This is my 7h year teaching second grade.  This is my 20th year at Independence Elementary.

In second grade, we will be expanding our reading and writing skills everyday.  We will also work to strengthen our understanding of concepts in math, science, social studies, and health.  All of this will be done during our Units of Study time.  Francis Howell is moving towards the Common Core Standards and we are getting a jump start this year by incorporating the Units of Study.  More information will be coming about this in the upcoming weeks.  We will discuss current events and develop study skills.  Parents play a very important role in their child’s education.  Your support at home

can make a huge difference in your child’s work at school.  By working together as a team, I am confident that this year will be a very successful one for your child.
